Frequently Asked Questions about Laser Hair Removal
How does laser hair removal feel? Does it hurt?
The discomfort level varies from person to person; The general sensation is a cool one, similar to rubber band snapping on the skin
Can I do laser hair removal every week?
We recommend leaving a 4-week window between the 1st and 2nd treatment. After that, you can get the treatment every 6-8 weeks, as hair growth will start to slow down!
What can I expect during laser hair removal treatments
Before the procedure, the practitioner will explain the type of laser to be used, the type of cooling device to be used, laser safety procedures, side effects of the treatment & the estimated number of treatments required for a permanent solution. Most practitioners will require that you sign a consent form.
What can I expect after laser hair removal?
The area treated will be pink or red from a couple of hours to a couple of days. The hair will begin to shed from the skin in 10-14 days. If the hair does not release from the skin, it is permissible to shave the area to remove the hair.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments depends on the type of hair to be removed, the condition of the skin, the growing cycle of hair, and the type of laser used. Only hair that is in the anagen (growing cycle of hair) phase will be affected by the laser treatment. Studies indicate that 6-8 are needed to reduce hair permanently.
When will I see results?
In general, the 2nd and 5th treatments are the most effective. The 2nd because it buts the hair back into the growth cycle and by the 5th treatment hair growth starts to slow down
How long do treatments take? Can I have one during a quick break like lunchtime?
This depends on the area treated and the number of sessions. A single treatment on a small area takes around 15 minutes
Anything I should know before taking a laser hair treatment?
Avoid the sun for 4-6 weeks before and after the treatment or until the practitioner permits. Wear a sunblock of SPF 30 daily, and reapply every 80 minutes. Do not wax, tweeze, or have electrolysis 6 weeks before treatment.
Any changes in health history should be reported before the treatment, including changes in medication and sun exposure
Any side effects I should know about?
Risks are minimal; however, you may experience redness, swelling, blistering, hyperpigmentation, and purpura (a laser “bruise”). These conditions usually do not last more than a couple of days. If you experience side effects, please let the practitioner know
